FUZHOU - A Party official of a city in east China's Fujian Province has been sacked from his posts due to serious violations of discipline and law, the provincial disciplinary watchdog said on Friday.

Zhang Zongxiong, former chief of the Longhai City Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has also been expelled from the CPC, according to Fujian's provincial department of discipline inspection.

Zhang accepted "huge amount" of bribes when he served as alternate member of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Zhangzhou City Committee as well as the secretary of the CPC Longhai City Committee, said a statement issued by the watchdog.

The disciplinary watchdog has confiscated the bribes Zhang accepted, while the local judicial authorities will further investigate his crimes, said the statement.

The case is yet another in the ongoing crackdown on corruption by the CPC that targets both "tigers" and "flies" (metaphors for senior and low-ranking corrupt officials).

Last year, the CPC's discipline inspection agencies punished about 182,000 officials nationwide, 13.3 percent more than in 2012.
