Yu Weiguo, member of the 19th CPC Central Committee and Party chief of Fujian province
Yu was born in 1955 in Wendeng, Shandong Province, and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1975.
In 1983, he graduated from Renmin University of China and started to work in the Research Office of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC. Yu later took a position at the Party Literature Research Center of the CPC Central Committee where he studied the thoughts of Deng Xiaoping. He worked as secretary for Ding Guangen in 1991. (Ding was then head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.) He became an assistant to the mayor of Xiamen in 1995 and then deputy secretary of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and head of its Organization Department.
In 2005, Yu was named deputy head of the organization department of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and later became the head.
He was appointed secretary of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee in 2009 and became deputy secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee in 2013.
In 2016, Yu was elected governor of Fujian at the fourth plenary session of the 12th Fujian Provincial People's Congress.
In 2017, Yu was elected Party chief Fujian and governor of Fujian provincial people's government.
In 2018, Yu was elected Party chief of Fujian and chairman of the 13th Standing Committee of Fujian Provincial People's Congress at the opening session.
