Water-splashing festival wins prize

A Dehong local tradition, the Water-splashing Festival, recently won a Traditional Festival Award.

The prize was granted at the 3rd Chinese Festival Awards, a contest jointly hosted by the Chinese Culture Promotion Society, the Festive China Association and the Chongqing municipal government.

According to the judging panel, the water-splashing festival won because of its popularity, distinct theme, profound culture and diverse activities.

It reflects Dehong culture in many ways: the water culture, the local music and dance, and the clothing and food culture. Therefore, studying it is highly useful for studying the history of the Dai people.

The Chinese Festival Awards were established with the approval of the national Ministry of Culture in 2007. The event is very famous in China.
