Xie Liangzhi graduated from Dalian Institute of Technology (now named Dalian University of Technology) with a bachelor's degree in 1987 and a master's degree in 1990. In 1996, he got his doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he published 10 SCI papers.
Xie joined Merck & Co Inc in 1996 where he engaged in the development of a viral vaccine. He took charge of the development and production technologies for three kinds of vaccines (Varivax®, Proquad®, and Zostavax®). He established globally advanced production technologies for the adenovirus vector AIDS vaccine. The technology is a method that produces the largest number of cells and viruses for a live virus vaccine used by humans. It has realized cGMP production under the 2000L scale and even 15000L has been approved by process certification.
Having stayed in the United States for 12 years, Xie decided to return to China to start business in 2002. He heads Sino Biological Inc, a biomedical high-tech company based in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. The labs and offices cover an area of nearly 3,000 square meters and 100 scientific personnel work in the research and development of animal cell expression biotechnology products.
Since its establishment, Sino Biological Inc has undertaken many scientific and technological development projects with the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission. After years of efforts, the company has set up an internationally advanced technology platform to cultivate animal cells on a large scale. They have also established a rapid industrialized channel for the pre-clinical production of genes and proteins.
Sino Biological Inc has maintained long-term technological outsourcing service partnerships with five of the world top 10 pharmaceuticals, providing them with advanced pre-clinical research services.
