Sun graduated with a doctoral degree in 1994 from the Electronic Engineering Department of the University of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. In 2005, he worked in the Department of Electronic Engineering at McGill University in Canada, for post-doctoral program.
With more than 30 papers published in first-class academic journals and presentations at international conferences, Sun has a total of 106 American and international patents.
From 1995 to 2005, Sun served as the chief engineer and senior research and development director at Hughes Network Systems Inc.
In 2000, Sun was awarded a special prize by Hughes Network Systems Inc for his contributions to the third generation mobile communications. In 2003, he won the Lawrence A. Hyland patent prize.
Established in June 2006, Availink is a high-tech company focusing on chip design and application system development for the digital TV, multimedia and communications industries. Since its establishment, Availink has launched a series of the technologies and products with independent intellectual property rights. This includes the Advanced Broadcasting System-Satelliite (ABS-S)-China DTH standard, Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite-Second Generation (DVB-S2), and China Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcast (DTMB)-a national standard for terrestrial broadcasting.
From 2006 to 2008, the company received a total investment of $29 million from venture capital companies such as Shanghai United, BlueRun Ventures, NEA and the Four River Group.
