Wuhu launches GIS to assist residents
Updated: 2012-06-06

In the 2012 the SuperMap GIS Innovation and Application of Wuhu Seminar announced that the e-service platform system will be provided to the residents at the end of June. Detailed information on hotels, restaurants and so on will be provided on the electronic map.

GIS (Geographic Information System) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all type of geographical data. The soon to be launched system is custom-designed for Wuhu and is an important part of the national "12th Five-Year Plan". The new public service platform has been implemented in Fujian, Hunan, Chongqing, Xi'an, Dalian and other major cities.

"From now on every bus in the system is equipped with three different cameras for monitoring purposes, so we are able to tell its speed as well as mileage" an authority in the transportation department said. "How many different departments does a community officer need contact in order to request updated and accurate information? How many times does a receptionist in city hall need to explain the same question over and over again in a day? These types of situations will be helped by through the system, which allows access to comprehensive information on Wuhu city," the system’s chief engineer said.

According to the authority, the system will be easy and convenient for the residents to use. For example if you are looking for a bus service route, all you need to do is type in the name of departure and arrival. The system will even filter out ambiguous names. Due to it being set to advanced monitoring, early warning and emergency response management systems, it acts as an assistance tool for related departments to react and take action based on the information provided.
