A miniature version of the Spring Festival gala was performed in the United States as well, thanks to a group of Chinese artists who tour the country every year during the Chinese New Year season.

The Pasadena Grand Theater, with a capacity of more than 3,000 seats, was fully packed Saturday night. Chinese artists treated an eager audience with their repertory programs, consisting of various art forms.

Performing artists included acrobats from the national acrobatic troupe of China, martial art masters from Luo Yang of central China's Henan province, known as the cradle of Chinese Kung Fu, and a group of children from a Chinese elementary school.

"I've lived in Los Angeles for more than twenty years. This art troupe from my home country visits us at this time every year, and that makes me feel very happy."

The theme of Chinese ethnic culture dominated the evening. Artists and musicians from minority groups such as Yi, Mongolian, and Uygur mesmerized the packed house with their distinguished pieces saturated with exotic flavor.

Qiao Wei,Vice President, said, "The show we presented offers seasonal greetings to the overseas Chinese in the United States. It also aims at promoting the splendid Chinese culture to the American people. So we think of this visit as an important opportunity for cultural exchange."

The annual overseas gala has gained a growing reputation over the years. It has played to numerous acclaims and won the moniker, "Cultural Spectacle of the Orient."
