Upcoming cultural events in Beijing

Qin Gallery's exhibition, Spring Contemporary Oil Paintings, features more than 30 works by young Chinese painters such as Chen Xiaoxiong and Liu Wanmin.

Through a variety of images and approaches, the paintings reflect the artists' perceptions of the age they live in, their lives and social environments.

March 1 to 31. Qin Gallery, Enjoy Paradise Huawei Li 1-1E (north of Beijing Curio City) Chaoyang district, 8779-0461.

朝阳区华威里1-1E北京古玩城北边

I Wanna Be Adored

Taking its title from a popular 1991 single by the British rock band the Stone Roses, I Wanna Be Adored, Russian-born artist Andreas Golder's solo exhibition presents a selection of new works produced during the course of his tenure as artist-in-residence at the Galerie Urs Meile Studio in Beijing.

While the exhibition draws its immediate impact from Golder's sinister mash-ups, his practice cannot be characterized as an exercise in pastiche - an inside joke designed to unravel the narrative of painting's development through arbitrary citation.

Instead, Golder has stitched together the mismatched and sometimes maimed parts of painting's conflicted upbringing with a methodical zeal, suturing together the works in his exhibition with great clarity of purpose and thematic unity.

Like Frankenstein's monster, the twisted visages and desperate goddesses that people Golder's exhibition share a common, fatal flaw: they are desperate to be loved.

Until April 10, 11 am-6:30 pm. Galerie Urs Meile Studio Beijing, 104 Caochangdi, Chaoyang district, 6433-3393.
