Beijing temple fair bring joy to Taiwan

As a major activity during the spring festival, Beijing temple fairs draw large crowds every year. This year Beijing artists have transported a temple fair to Taiwan to let residents there taste a lunar new year in real Beijing style.

Festive decorations have brought a joyful atmosphere to Taichung city, where the Beijing-style temple fair is taking place. This is the first ever such event held across the Strait.

Folk artists staged a stilt yangge dance, the two men comedy where the front man does the acting while the other man hiding behind does the speaking, and acrobatics.

Audience Member said, "It's very good. I haven't watched such a show in Taiwan by Mainland artists."

The traditional handicrafts such as kite making, snuff bottle drawing, and egg painting also attracted a lot of spectators.

Spectator said, "Very special. This is my first time to see this. We don't have this kind of thing in Taiwan."

For those seeking a gluttonous experience, there are plenty on offer. The temple fair has become a one-stop-shop for Beijing snacks, from the crispy, to the sweet and tasty, all are mouthwatering...... Eat in or take some to go.

Patron said, "This flour tea is very authentic!"

"I'll buy some for my grandson."

For those who can't get enough of the Beijing flavor, there are souvenirs for them to buy and an exhibition about the city for them to watch.

"We hope to stage more temple fairs from other Mainland cities such as Shanghai, Nanjing, or Chengdu. We also would like to take Taiwan temple fairs to the Mainland." Said the organizer.

The Beijing temple fair runs for four days in Taichung city which ends on Thursday.
