Twelve art galleries in four major cities in China will participate in the 16th Annual Los Angeles Art Show in the form of a special program on contemporary Chinese art trends next week, the organizer said on Tuesday.

The program, entitled "China Today" and consisting of art exhibition, lectures and a film screening, will be highlighted by a special show presented by the 53 Art Museum, a new cutting-edge contemporary art institution located in Guangzhou, China, at the Jan. 19-23 exhibition in the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Altogether, twelve galleries from China's major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, which have never exhibited their works outside China, will put their art collections on display, Betina Tasende, President of the Fine Art Dealers Association, said at a press conference held at the Consulate-general of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles.

"We began the guest country programs last year," she said. " China is our guest country this year."

The special exhibition, which is entitled "Three Walkers- Crossing Over," features art installations and mixed media pieces created by three artists from Guangzhou. Born in the 1960s and 1970s, Feng Feng, Qin Jin and Liu Qingyuan explored the complexity of the 21st century's social and artistic transformation in southern China through their artwork.

Tao Dongdong, a famed Chinese artist, will deliver a lecture about contemporary art in China. "The Rising Tide," a 2006 documentary exploring China's development through the works of some talented Chinese photographers and video artists, will also be screened.

As the largest art fair on the western coast, the Los Angeles Art Show, which features diverse works by contemporary artists, Old Masters, established artists and rising talent, draws more than 100 art galleries from around the world each year. More than 40,000 visitors attended the 2010 fair and art works worth 25 million dollars were sold, the organizer said.
