Beach fun in Chaoyang

The first "Beijing Beach Carnival" opened in Chaoyang Park at the weekend, with the month-long event's theme being "City in the Sea, Sand in the Park".

The main activities will take place at the Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground, where the Olympic beach volleyball games were hosted last summer.

A big highlight is that the beach sand is the same as that used for the Olympics, and the water in the pools is the same as that in the Water Cube, the National Aquatic Center.

The carnival will also feature magic shows, a re-creation of the Olympic torch relay, movies and beach concerts, to keep children and adults engaged. To add to the excitement of eager football fans, two big screens will show live broadcasts of the Italian Super Cup and other games.

The carnival is being hosted by the Beijing TV Station sports channel, which will also carry live broadcasts of some of the carnival activities.

A full day of fun costs 80 yuan on weekdays and 100 yuan on weekends. Children less than 1-m-high can get in for free.
