Sea grass found covering 51,000 sq km of Qingdao's beach

Updated: 2009-07-23 18:45 Qingdao: Large amounts of sea grass from the the Yellow Sea have been found on the beach of Qingdao, affecting the offshore culture zone, tourism resort and the ecological environment. According to Qingdao's emergency headquarters, the sea grass disaster has been drifting towards the northeast, with some reaching Qingdao. After continuous observation from the State Oceanic Administration, North China Sea Branch, the grass has been found spread over an area of 51,000 sq, covering 1,600 sq. The majority of the grass has passed over Qingdao's coastal zone, moving towards Yantai and Weihai, whilke the portion that accounts for 7 percent of the total continues to move north. Qingdao has started dragging the invading grasses, which equates to 100 tons. |
