A landlord's five-year search for his tenant

A 70-year-old landlord found the owner of five bankbooks carrying a deposit of 38,000 yuan five years after his tenant left them behind in his rented apartment.

Zheng Pumin, a resident of Haikou, Hainan province, found the bankbooks, with passwords to the accounts, in 2004. They belonged to a tenant named Wang Chongshu, who had recently moved out.

After Wang never showed, Zheng landed at a school where Wang worked, only to learn Wang was recently diagnosed with a serious mental disorder and was being treated at a local hospital.

Zheng went to the hospital and met Wang, who had no recollection of his landlord or his bankbooks.

Zheng left the bankbooks with the school's headmaster, who promised to return them to Wang once he was treated.
