Xinhua | Updated: 2014-07-02 09:57

China intercepted 225 batches of substandard food imports and rejected them from the domestic market in May, the country's leading quality watchdog said on Monday.

The imports involved mainly beverages, cookies and aquatic products from 33 countries and regions with low quality, microbial contamination or excessive additives, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The administration also found seven shipments of substandard cosmetics from five countries and regions. All the products were either destroyed or returned.
