A Bite of China wins documentary award

A Bite of China received the year’s biggest documentary award on Dec 21.

The seven-episode CCTV television series on food and history received the Committee Award of the China Academy Awards of Documentary Film, beating more than 400 other entries from China and abroad. It’s also the winner in the category of international communications.

Juror Li Zhi lauds the series for “combining food with feelings and history.”

A total of 11 awards were announced in a ceremony hosted by the Communication University of China.

The Next Life, about the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in Southwest China’s Sichuan province, was honored as the best feature documentary.

The award for best foreign documentary went to Children of the Tsunami by the BBC. The documentary explored how the 2011 tsunami in Japan and the subsequent Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster affected children’s lives.
