The immersive show is directed by famous Chinese director Wang Chaoge, a co-director of the opening ceremony at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Encore Dunhuang debuted at the first Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo in September 2016. Over the past year, the show has been performed in the city over 700 times, reaching over 350,000 people.

At a news conference to mark the one-year anniversary of the show's debut on Monday, Wang was named "Honorary Citizen" of Dunhuang by local government to honor her contributions to the city's brand image.
