NIPA commissioner meets French peer
Shen Changyu, commissioner of the National Intellectual Property Administration, met a delegation headed by Pascal Faure, director-general of the French National Industrial Property Institute, also known as INPI, in Beijing last week. The chiefs of the IP authorities from China and France shared the latest IP progress in their respective countries. Their talks also covered aspects such as reforms, high-level visits, personnel training and bilateral cooperation on IP.

Ningbo Customs seizes illegal exports
Ningbo Customs has seized a shipment of exports suspected of violating rights to the well-known trademark FV, according to the General Administration of Customs. The shipment was made up of drains, valves and faucets in nearly 600 boxes. Collectively worth more than 5 million yuan ($702,890), the seizure is the largest of its kind in Ningbo since the Operation Longteng 2019, a half-year campaign initiated by the GAC on July 1 to crack down on nationwide infringements.

Expo to focus on smart manufacturing
The World Intelligent Manufacturing Conference is scheduled to be held in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, in October. Companies from more than 300 countries will showcase their latest technologies and products at the global industrial gathering, with over 10 percent of the exhibits set to make their China debut, organizers said. The event will also include a series of forums on popular issues including artificial intelligence, 5G technology and the industrial internet.

High-tech conference yields major results
A total of 105 deals were signed at the China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City International High-Tech Expo earlier this month. The agreements involved a combined investment value of some 92.38 billion yuan ($12.99 billion), including 39 projects each valued at more than 500 million yuan. The expo showcased the latest innovation achievements in China's strategic sectors including Beidou navigation system and information security, as well as high-tech products from 38 other countries and regions, organizers said.

Financial alliance founded in Xiamen
An intellectual property financial alliance was recently founded in Xiamen to promote IP-collateralized services. The new group, made of investors, banks, insurers and appraisal institutes, as well as other financial service providers, will help Xiamen build itself into a financial center across the Taiwan Straits and satisfy the financing needs of innovation-driven growth companies, local officials said.
