Video gaming sector eclipses 70b yuan
The output value of animation and video game companies in Beijing amounted to about 71 billion yuan ($10.08 billion) in 2018, according to the International Forum on the Development of Animation and Games Industries held on July 31. The forum, an important part of the 14th China Beijing International Cultural & Creative Industry Expo, displayed progress in China's animation and video game industries and provided the latest theories and insights on the development of the sectors worldwide, insiders said. The event aims to leverage its brand influence to attract more leading companies from animation and esports industries to develop in Beijing, organizers said.

Technology projects enter final round
Ten of 29 projects presented in the second round of a national innovation competition running from Wednesday to Thursday in Beijing made it to the final. The 10 projects covered various industries including biotechnology, new medical materials and new network technology. Organized by the intellectual property office of Haidian district and Intellectual Property Publishing House, the contest started in April and is expected to conclude in September. It is aimed at the promotion of high-value patented technologies.

Association event attracts local brands
Provincial capital Zhengzhou recently hosted the founding congress of the Henan Timehonored Brands Association, attracting more than 70 longstanding companies from the province. The association aims to gather local time-honored companies to learn from each other and promote the province's culture and history to the world. By the end of April, Henan had 156 brands identified as the province's time-honored brands. Most of them were from fields including food processing, hotels and restaurants, tea and alcoholic drinks and traditional Chinese medicine.

Forum draws guests from home, abroad
The first "Maritime Silk Road "Intellectual Property Innovation and Cooperation International Forum was held in Zhuhai on Monday, with guests from the United States, Japan, India and Singapore delivering speeches. Domestic and foreign experts discussed three themes at the forum, including the latest development and practices of IP systems in countries along the Maritime Silk Road and excellent IP operation projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The forum aimed to promote development of the Bay Area into an international scientific and technological innovation center, its organizers said.

Bureau approved as pilot organization
The National Intellectual Property Administration has recently approved the Shenzhen IP bureau to become a pilot organization for building a support system for inspection and appraisal technologies used to resolve IP disputes. In the one-year pilot period, the bureau will task the Shenzhen Institute of Standard and Technology with specific work, such as creating an inspection and appraisal system, forming related norms and setting up expert database and a case library for IP infringement inspection and appraisal. After the period, Shenzhen will further develop the system and include the inspection and appraisal into IP administrative law enforcement.
