Women starting to make their mark in professional competitions, as Xinhua reports from Cheyenne, Wyoming

Jimmi Jo Montera's daddy put her on a horse when she was 3 years old. By the age of 4, the blonde, pony-tailed girl was roping cattle.

Last weekend, some 40 years later, Montera was back in the saddle, thrilling a huge crowd as one of rodeo's top female calf ropers at the annual Frontier Days rodeo in Cheyenne, capital of the US state of Wyoming.
