By Hong Xiao at the United Nations | China Daily | Updated: 2019-08-01 07:08

China's new envoy to the United Nations, describing the nation as "100 percent" a developing country, said it will continue to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Zhang Jun, China's new permanent representative to the UN, spoke to the media after presenting his credentials to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

Zhang said that in the past few years, developing countries have had achievements, "but at the same time, they still face the problem of insufficient and unbalanced development".
