China Daily | Updated: 2019-07-29 08:23

BEIJING - Amid rapid expansion of the digital economy, China will take more measures to promote sustainable and healthy development of the internet sector for in-depth integration of digital and real economies.

As a key factor driving digitalization, the internet has prompted digital economy to be a new engine of China's economic growth, said Chen Zhaoxiong, vice-minister of industry and information technology, on July 10 at the China Internet Conference in Beijing.

In 2018, China's digital economy reached 31.3 trillion yuan ($4.55 trillion), accounting for 34.8 percent of the country's GDP and contributing 67.9 percent of GDP growth.
