A safety net for rural farmers

By Zhang Yu in Baoding, Hebei | China Daily | Updated: 2019-06-08 07:02

It's hard for Li Erguo to forget the time when she left her impoverished village to visit the city at the age of 8 years old, and the surprise she felt when she first set eyes on a two-story building.

Now 45, Li has been an insurance company manager in Fuping county, Hebei province, for the past eight years.

With her stable income, she enjoys a comfortably well-off life that is far removed from the rigors of her childhood. Yet, her hometown still suffers from poverty, which is a situation that she has been striving to remedy through her profession.
