Mercedes' Speeks shifts to North America

Nicholas Speeks (pictured), former head of sales of Mercedes-Benz China, was named CEO of Mercedes-Benz US and head of the company's North America operations. Speeks took over from Dietmar Exler who is leaving the company. Prior to the appointment, Speeks had steered sales growth in China for over six years. During his tenure, Mercedes-Benz China has seen a surge in sales. In 2018, sales tripled from that in 2012. Analysts said the appointment was to bring Speeks' experience to the US market. In a letter to staff, Speeks said his invaluable China experience will hold him in good stead. Before serving China, he worked for the company in Japan, the UAE, Vietnam, and Germany.
