US politicians criticized for 'lies, rumors' about Huawei

Beijing slammed some politicians in Washington on Friday for fabricating rumors and instigating ideological opposition by linking Chinese telecom giant Huawei with the Chinese government.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang responded to comments by United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday that Huawei is deeply tied not only to the Chinese government but also to the Communist Party of China, and that those connections put US information crossing its networks at risk.

Pompeo said in an interview with CNBC: "We've been working at the State Department to make sure that everyone understands the risks."
