Companies key to building smart cities

Construction of a smart city should rely more on efforts from market players and the society, a government official said on Saturday. During the 2019 EU-China Forum on Urban Scientific Research and Innovative Industry Development held in Tianjin from Friday to Saturday, Li Tie, president of the China Center for Urban Development under the National Development and Reform Commission, said the fast growth of cutting-edge tech in China has proved that due to the strong demand from the domestic market, companies are playing a major role in building a smart city together with the government and as a result help the cities and the country develop in a healthier way.
