35 miners are rescued, 8 others underground

Thirty-five miners have been rescued and eight others remain trapped in a flooded iron mine in Xunke county, Heilongjiang province, the local government said on Friday.

The accident occurred at Cuihongshan iron mine around 3 am on Friday when 43 people were working in the mine, according to the government.

Soon after the accident, the Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched a working team to the mine to guide the rescue work. Vice-Minister of Emergency Management Huang Ming called for all out efforts to search for the trapped miners and prevent any subsequent disasters.
