Wild elephant kills tea picker in mountain

A woman was killed after being attacked by an Asian elephant while picking tea leaves in Menghai on Saturday. Yang, 52, and her husband were scared to escape after they saw a wild elephant while picking tea leaves in the mountain at about 5 pm. As Yang and her husband ran away from the animal in opposite directions, the elephant charged into her and attacked her. Yang's husband witnessed this and quickly sought police help. Local forestry police said the estrus period of Asian elephants is usually between March and June every year. During the estrus period, wild elephants can be irritable and are prone to attack people and other animals, and can even damage vehicles and houses.
