Carmaker's execs urged to follow regulations

By Wang Xiaodong | China Daily | Updated: 2019-05-11 06:57

The top market regulator on Friday summoned executives of three Mercedes-Benz related companies, urging them to follow China's laws and regulations and intensify oversight over sales dealers across the country to ensure consumer rights.

The State Administration for Market Regulation took the action after a high-profile dispute between a customer and a dealer in the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz CLS300 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, in March.

A customer claimed she bought the vehicle from Xi'an Lizhixing Co, an authorized dealer for the brand, but it developed engine problems just minutes after she picked it up from the dealer. She kept negotiating with the dealer in the following half month for a refund or exchange, but was refused.
