Fujian

Taiwan affairs head meets KMT official

Liu Jieyi, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, met with Wang Jin-pyng, honorary chairman of the Wang family association of Taiwan on Wednesday. Wang was visiting Fujian to honor his ancestors. Liu called on Chinese across the Straits to shoulder the responsibility of the nation, adhere to the 1992 Consensus and resolutely oppose agitation for Taiwan independence. Wang said the 1992 Consensus had laid a solid foundation for peace and stability in cross-Straits relations, and independence would not work. Wang, 78, is a senior member of the Kuomintang party and a former head of the island's legislative body. He announced in March that he would run for the island's leadership in 2020.
