Ruling aims to guard shareholders' rights

The Supreme People's Court issued a judicial interpretation of company law on Sunday, requiring increased efforts to protect shareholders' rights. The interpretation says that controlling shareholders are not exempt from liability for compensation in related-party transactions even if the transactions are undergoing legal procedures, in a bid to protect the rights and interests of small and medium-sized investors. The interpretation took effect on Monday.
