On our Sina Weibo

On Saturday, a female Yangtze giant softshell turtle, a critically endangered species, died at the Suzhou Zoo in Jiangsu province, after the latest fertilization process. The death brings the species one step closer to extinction, as there are only two known animals left. A male, which is estimated to be more than 100 years old, lives at the Suzhou Zoo. Another turtle, whose sex is unknown, has been observed in the wild in Vietnam. It is thought to be the largest living freshwater turtle.
