Chinese company makes Kenya greener

By Lucie Morangi in Kenya | China Daily | Updated: 2019-04-11 07:52

A new partnership between soft drink producers and a Chinese company is expected to accelerate plastic recycling and create more jobs in Kenya.

Under the partnership, a consortium of Kenya manufacturers will provide Weeco Recycling Company a subsidy of $0.50 per kilogram of PET bottles collected and recycled.

Consequently, the company will pay a premium for each plastic bottle bought from waste collectors and pickers in a bid to stimulate collection of more plastic from the current annual levels of 5,900 metric tons to 20,000 tons.
