China will add fentanyl-related substances to a supplementary list of controlled narcotics and psychotropic substances used for nonmedical purposes starting May 1, authorities said on Monday.
The decision was announced on Monday in a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Public Security, the National Health Commission and the National Medical Products Administration at a news conference held by the State Council Information Office.
"Drugs are a hazard to all human beings, and drug controls are of importance to the future and destiny of mankind," said Liu Yuejin, deputy director of the China National Narcotic Control Commission and an official at the Ministry of Public Security.
