Beijing issues orange alert for pollution

Beijing's meteorological authority has issued an orange air pollution alert for Friday through Sunday because of unfavorable weather conditions that will trap particulates. During the three days, high-emitting gasoline-powered cars and earth-moving operations at construction sites will be banned. It suggested that kindergartens, primary schools and middle schools suspend outdoor activities. It also reminded the public to take individual measures, such as wearing masks. Orange is the second-most-severe level in China's four-tier alert system. An orange alert was also issued for Tianjin, while Zhengzhou, Henan province, has issued the most severe red alert.
