Shanghai a hot spot for innovation

More than one word is required to properly capture Shanghai's multiple facets - financial center, seaport, industrial cluster, commercial hub.

But one thing is certain: The city's modern charm and expanding influence are fueled by innovation, which has been emphasized by President Xi Jinping for years.

Xi stressed the importance of innovation during his inspection visit to Shanghai in November and in talks with the city's lawmakers at the national two sessions - the annual meetings of China's legislature and top advisory body.
