8 dead, 3 hurt in apartment explosion

An explosion and fire caused by a gas leak on Wednesday in an apartment building in Changchun, Jilin province, killed eight people and injured three, according to local authorities. The local fire brigade received a report of the blast at about 5:35 am on Wednesday. The blast originated on the fourth floor of an apartment building in a downtown neighborhood. A preliminary investigation found that it was caused by a resident's misuse of domestic fuel gas.
