Charity foundation funds poverty fight

China Siyuan Foundation for Poverty Alleviation said on Monday that it had spent more than 250 million yuan ($37 million) to fight poverty last year. The foundation was established by the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association in 2007, to prompt enterprise engagement in poverty relief and other charity projects. Around 2 million people benefited from a number of public welfare programs under the foundation last year, ranging from those in medical care and education to industry support in rural areas, it said.
