A long way to go to break impasse over islands and secure a WWII peace treaty

Japan has had to admit that it will take time to settle its territorial dispute with Russia and conclude a peace treaty.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Jan 22 - the 25th for the two leaders - ended with no tangible result to the dispute over four islands, called the Southern Kurils in Russia and the Northern Territories in Japan.
