Achievements

Since 1978 when the central government launched the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (Northwest, North and Northeast China), huge improvements have taken place compared with the situation before the campaign. Here are some numbers:

Forest coverage area in the "three-north" areas increased from 5.05 percent at the beginning to 13.57 percent in 2017.

Volume of standing timber increased from 725 million cubic meters to 3.33 billion cu m.
