Reflection marks 40 years of Sino-US ties

On Dec 15, 1978, Beijing and Washington simultaneously announced the establishment of diplomatic relations, which officially took effect on Jan 1, 1979.

Forty years later to the day, on Saturday, academic and business leaders from China and the United States, meeting at the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, took stock of the past 40 years of interactions.

Robert Kapp, former president of the US-China Business Council, said the focus should be on opportunities.
