16 hurt in 5.7 quake; emergency aid sent

Sixteen people were reported injured after a magnitude 5.7 earthquake jolted Xingwen county in Yibin, Sichuan province, at 12:46 pm on Sunday, the local government said. The quake occurred a depth of 12 kilometers, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. Residents of Yibin felt strong tremors, and some houses in rural areas were damaged. Power and water outages also occurred in some villages, while a few roads were cut off by small landslides. Emergency relief supplies have been sent to the area, the Ministry of Emergency Management said.
