Cosmetics giant L'Oreal vows to boost use of sustainable palm oil

French cosmetics giant L'Oreal SA has joined the China Sustainable Palm Oil Alliance, vowing to promote the use of sustainable palm oil in the Chinese market.

The alliance was launched by the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce, the World Wide Fund for Nature and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.

According to the alliance, L'Oreal has committed to guaranteeing the traceability and transparency of its supply chain; eliminating controversial and illegal palm oil sources; ensuring zero deforestation of high conservation value and high carbon stock areas; increasing the uptake of environmentally and socially friendly, and especially RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil; and improving its management system following certification.
