Dam builder and operator China Three Gorges Corp has invested more than 248.5 billion yuan ($35.8 billion) in recent years to resettle more than 1.3 million residents from the reservoir area of its hydropower project along the Yangtze River.
It has built two cities, 10 counties and 114 villages and towns, together with more than 830 kilometers of roads, to gradually improve the infrastructure of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region, the company said.
The Three Gorges Dam, a gargantuan structure straddling the Yangtze River in Hubei province, was approved in 1992, with construction beginning in 1994. The last part of the dam, an enormous ship lift, was completed in 2015.
