Swine fever cases pose challenges

China faces great challenges in controlling African swine fever outbreaks, which have occurred in 17 provinces, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said on Wednesday. The long-distance transport of pigs is the main reason for the spread of the disease, and vehicles that have not been properly washed and sterilized pose great risks, according to a notice from the ministry, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Security. Authorities over animal husbandry, veterinary services, transportation and public security should work together to implement thorough inspections of all pig transport vehicles, it said.
