Artist creates a unique world of texture and color

Artist Alexa Meade paints over real people and 3D environments with a visually stunning if sometimes puzzling camouflage technique. The installation artist is best known for her portraits painted directly onto the human body and inanimate objects in a way that collapses depth and makes her models appear two-dimensional when photographed. She masks skin, clothes, walls and furniture in nontoxic acrylic paints that imitate the colors and texture of the surrounding area. Then, she photographs or films the scenes, creating a hallucinatory effect.
