WWF issues first Panda Friendly Certification
The Worldwide Fund for Nature issued the world's first Panda Friendly Certification in Chengdu, in Sichuan province. The certification aims to create sustainability for healthy panda ecosystems and economic development. One of their goals is to work with local people to set up sustainability standards for harvesting plants that are currently in demand or have economic value for the region. This can help protect local species and prevent other more destructive uses of land. The first certificate was awarded for a herbal medicine, known as Schisandra chinensis (magnolia berry), from Pingwu county, Sichuan.
