Food: Baker creates pies in good taste

Lauren Ko, a baker from Seattle, produces spectacular pie crusts that are as much a work of art as they are tasty. Many of Ko's pies have a lattice design, but with a twist. The precise cuts and color combinations of fruit on her tarts, as well as the intricate patterns woven into her pie crusts, often lead people to believe that Ko has had professional training in art, design and cooking or even a background in math. She said she has always loved art but had no professional training. She finds inspiration everywhere, from bathroom tiles and textiles to lawn seats and bamboo purses, and saves images to give her ideas for future pies.
