Ex-official gets 12 years for graft; 2 others arrested

Lu Enguang, a former senior official of the Ministry of Justice, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by a court in Henan province on Tuesday after being convicted of offering bribes amounting to more than 20 million yuan ($2.87 million).
According to the Anyang Intermediate People's Court, Lu, who was formerly head of the ministry's political division, was convicted of offering bribes and using his companies to offer bribes. He was also fined 3 million yuan. His illicit assets will be confiscated by the court.
According to the court, from 1992 to 2016 Lu paid government staff a total 12.78 million yuan in bribes for different purposes, including joining the Communist Party of China, seeking to be a teacher and aiding promotions.
