Schools urged to root out hazards

The education supervision committee under the State Council, China's Cabinet, issued an urgent circular on Monday, telling local education authorities across the country to comb schools to root out safety hazards. The circular was issued after a bloody attack in Chongqing wounded 14 kindergarten children on Friday morning. The incident shows a lack of awareness and precautionary measures at many schools, it said. School bullying, food safety, fire control and transportation are key areas to be checked.
