Fugitive returns to face justice

A fugitive suspected of economic crimes in Shandong province has turned himself in to the authorities just five months after fleeing to Canada, the country's top anti-graft watchdog said on Saturday. The surrender of Wang Weixin, 62, once again illustrated the unwavering resolve of the Communist Party of China to eradicate corruption, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a statement on its website. Wang, former head of Daxinzhuang village, Jinan, is suspected of involvement in a case of illegal transfer of land use rights. In the statement, the CCDI urged fugitive suspects to shed their illusions and take the opportunity to surrender to the authorities as soon as possible.
